It came as a surprise when my company offered a trip to my friend and me all the way to Geneva for a week. It was to present the various activities we do for the good of society in a town-hall being organized there.

The Swiss airways flight was from Mumbai to Zurich and then from Zurich to Geneva. It was the month of February and we were already warned of the cold weather there. The flight was about to land at the Geneva airport when I caught a glimpse of the majestic view outside. The mountains were illuminated by the glittering snow and the land down had all shades of green which were well organised into different sizes of various square shapes. And at that instance I knew what to expect from the beautiful land.

Snow FlakeOne week in Geneva gave us a glimpse of Switzerland and also some part of France. It was here that I saw snow for the first time and discovered snowflakes have beautiful shapes. They look like stars, flowers and have beautiful patterns when they reach earth fresh from heaven for the first time. A miracle indeed!

Here is a small poem to sum up my experience during my short-and-sweet stay in Geneva.

”Je t’aime Geneva”

Where Bonjour and Merci makes up your day,
Where strangers smile at you and walk you the way.
Where Jet d’Eau the mighty fountain,
Reaches the sky and gets lost in the Milky Way.
Yes I have been to the land of Angels I can say.

Fondu and Potato easily became a part of my diet,
With delicious cheese inside and white fluffy snow outside,
Oh! I felt so alive!
Where a thousand snowflakes, resembled stars on a dark night,
Yes I have been to the land of Angels I can say.

Where every human is treated with love and care,
Where respect seemed like a daily affair,
Where I met new people, who held me through,
And made me feel like we were long lost friends,
Yes I have been to the land of Angels I can say.

On a bright sunny day when the sky was blue,
And the mountains far away shone with a hue,
When it was time for me to leave the place,
Far away in green meadows I saw an angel wave,
It wasn’t a good bye, “à bientôt” I somehow heard him say.

Translation of the French words used above –

Bonjour – Hello
Merci – Thank you
Jet d’Eau – Jet of water (Name of the famous fountain near Geneva lake)
à bientôt – See you soon
