Exploring Nagaland was like unfolding secret pages of India’s treasure book. It felt like going back ages & watching a live museum in the era of hunting and farming. It was a real discovery of breathtaking and untouched natural beauty, a preview of hidden and unknown Indian traditions, supreme quality of people and their hospitality.

Can you see Thanamir? Because I can’t! But I have to reach on the top of that Mountain!

It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Our driver stopped the car and got down. He went ahead walking. We could not understand what was going on. We were just watching him and he returned after some time and said “Iske aage gadi nahi jaega” (car won’t go any further). That was unexpected. Tsointe had said the car would drop us half a kilometer before Thanamir and villagers would come to help us to carry our luggage. But there was no sign of any village nearby. Roads were deserted. There was deep valley on one side and a huge mountain on the other. Our driver suggested that we can use a short-cut to reach Thanamir. It would supposedly take just one hour to reach Thanamir via this shortcut. We were so angry and at the same time, shocked!

No calls, no messages...just hopes!

No calls, no messages…just hopes!

Kohima to Kiphre is almost 10 hours journey but bus route is very scenic. Its all mountains and we pass through many small villages like Pfutsero, Jessami, Phek. At every stop there were some children and village people selling fruits and vegetables. As we could not get proper lunch we thought of buying some fruits. We thought will do some bargaining. But unexpectedly it was so cheap that we thought of paying more than its price. We could get 20 sweet and fresh guavas for just for Rs.10 and the same case with bananas. 200% value for money! We took some quick snaps with those shy kids and moved ahead to next destination.

A recount of my thrilling trek to Harishchandragad via nali-chi-vaat, which is considered to be one of the most difficult treks in the Sahyadri Mountains (Western Ghats) of Maharashtra, India. This is a story about the most adrenaline-filled 48 hours of my life.

Morning Adventures

We woke up at sunrise.  I had a good night’s sleep and felt fresh, unlike everyone else.  Normally, early winter nights in the Sahyadris are fairly cold; however, this time, the night had been quite pleasant and comfortable.  I think it was because the rocks that absorb heat during the day time radiate heat at night, and we had slept on those very rocks and were surrounded by them.
