Today (March 8th) is International Women’s Day. At Bharari, we are marking this occasion by showcasing photos of ordinary women who are extraordinary in their special way.
Shakuntala – the girl with the perpetual smile who lives in Anandwan. She is a victim of cerebral palsy by birth and cannot talk, walk or use her hands. Yet she will bring a tear in your eye when you see her beautifully threaded greeting card that she stitches using her toes.

This lady in her 50’s finished first place (probably in record time) in a 10-km marathon in Meluri, Nagaland. Many women were running bare feet. The Naga people are well known for their incredible stamina.
“Give them a chance, not charity”, said Baba Amte. Singers performing in Anandwan’s orchestra, Swaranandwan, for the differently-abled and talented people.
