Taking Flight…

Picture of the Week #76

SubscribeFiled Under: Picture of the Week,by Neeraj

A scene from the eventful weekend when Toronto hosted the G20 Summit.  It was a time when Toronto’s “finest” were not-so-fine.  This picture always makes me laugh.  Why?

It seems as if the police are facing some very violent protesters and they are getting ready to “control the crowd” by force.  In reality, there were NO protesters, and only ordinary and curious citizens (like me) taking photos of the most exciting time in Toronto’s history.

Never in the history of Canada were the police officers given such sweeping powers to arrest and detain anyone they liked.  I almost got myself arrested when the riot police surrounded a major intersection that had a handful of protesters and hundreds of spectators with cameras.  The price-tag for the Summit weekend security?  Only a billion or so dollars.

I think the Indian police in Kashmir need equipment like this to fight the protesters.  Those are some violent protesters.
