This is the Red Fort (Lal Qila) in New Delhi (there is another Red Fort in Agra).  It is called the “red” fort because it is made of red sandstone.  I learned one interesting, shall we say, secret about this fort during my visit.

Supposedly, there is an underground tunnel connecting the Red Fort in Delhi to the Taj Mahal in Agra (~200 kms), where suspected Islamic terrorists are interrogated.  The tunnel is under the control of the Indian Army.  It’s no secret that both the Delhi and Agra Red Forts, as well as Taj Mahal, have tunnels underneath.  However, whether there is a tunnel of such length is anyone’s guess. Anyhow, it’s quite interesting.

On India’s Independence Day (August 15th), the Prime Minister of India gives his run-of-the-mill “we’re strong, we will fight terrorism etc.” speech from here.
