Picture of the Week #81

These are children of Vadkhel village in Maharashtra, India. It is one of the most remote village I’ve ever been to in India. The village is not connected to any roads, nor is there electricity at this village. Transportation was a bullock-cart. Coming here was like going back a hundred years.

Seen on the side are food grains (not sure which type). There were some women who were doing something with the grains – I asked for their permission to photograph them, but they shyly shook their head. I didn’t take their picture… had they not refused, I think it would have been a terrific shot due to the setting and lighting conditions.

I saw this village on my 2008 Jumbo Trek in the Sahyadri mountains. The village is close to the twin peaks of Mangi-Tungi, which are a famous Jain religious site. We were on our way to Nhavi Killa. I will write more about this terrific experience at some point in the future.
