Taking Flight…

Road Trip: Rocky Mountains

In a week’s time we’re heading for a reclusive retreat in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. We’re flying to Calgary in the western province of Alberta and then renting a car to go to the mountains.

It is very unfortunate that due to a lack of competition in the Canadian airspace, it is often more expensive to fly to most destinations within Canada, than it is to fly to the US or Europe. However, since neither of us has seen much of the country that we call home, we’ve decided to see what Canada has to offer.

We’ve chalked out an itinerary using several different sources, including getting recommendations from our friends and searching the internet. The places we plan to visit include Banff National Park, Yoho National Park and Jasper National Park.

Due to the fact that many of the places in the national park (such as Lake Louise) are marketed as luxury destinations, it is not easy to find reasonably priced accommodation that doesn’t take up more than half of the budget.

Since we would rather not make this into a backpacking trip and stay in hostels, we’ve done extensive research to get good value for our money.

The plan on our trip is a combination of relaxation and hiking. I know it sounds like an oxymoron – relaxation and hiking – but nature is intoxicating and Mother Nature induces mental relaxation, which, in this day and age, is more important than physical rest.

We will have the full report on our trip in September and will include tips on saving money without compromising on the fun, safety and comfort – sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
