Thursday Challenge – “Green”

We are pleased to take part in the weekly Thursday Challenge series organized by A picture related to a new theme announced each week will be posted here. Today’s theme is the “Green”.

We put a lot of thought on the picture to use for this week’s Thursday Challenge theme – “Green”. So, while browsing through our collection of photos, we came across this picture that aptly depicts this week’s theme. Can you guess how?

Earthen tea cups

Earthen tea cups

We saw many road-side chaiwalas (tea vendors) in Kolkata (one of the largest metros in India) using earthen cups (kullads) instead of using plastic or glass cups. The earthen cups are not only hygienic as they are only used once, but they are also 100% biodegradable. Tea served in these cups have a distinct and delicious taste.

Unfortunately, Kolkata is the only city we have seen that uses these. We wish other places would start adopting these “green” cups. At the very least, mobile tea vendors doing the rounds in Indian Railways should be using these earthen cups as the plastic ones that they currently use simply get tossed out the window – that’s literally millions of non-biodegradable cups thrown out every day!
